 About me

Hi!

My name is Aleksandr Alekseyonok.

I've been an orienteer since 1986 with many good results in youth and junior classes. I was an elite athlete from 1993 to 2003. I've earned the title of champion of Belarus several times in various disciplines: middle, long, and relay events.

I participated in JWOC 1994 and various stages of World Championships, European Championships, and World Cup events.

As of 2018, I have been an IOF Advisor; however, my involvement has been suspended since 2022 due to sanctions for all Belarusian athletes and coaches because of the Belarus government supplying Russia in its war unleashed in Ukraine.

Throughout my career, I've taken on diverse roles within the Federation of Belarus, including serving as the head of the inspection service and coaching youth and junior teams.

In addition, I've contributed as a coach in some WOC, EYOC, and JWOC events. The Federation of Belarus has honored me several times as the best course maker of the year.

I've also worked as a personal coach, specializing in orienteering technique, for athletes of various levels.

Unfortunately, due to political repression and the threat of imprisonment on political grounds, my family and I were forced to leave our country two years ago. We currently reside in Poland.

At the end of 2023 I released the first part of the Practical  Guide for Advanced Orienteers

"Confident Orienteering Book 1: The Basics".

Book 1 is an e-book originally published in English and has already been translated into several countries.

The second part of the Practical Guide Book 2 "Planning and Executing Routes" is expected to be released in early 2025.

Left, Right, or Straight: Leg Analysis #18

Left, Right, or Straight: Leg Analysis #18 Presented  leg 6-7 from the middle distance of the Norwegian Masters Championship 2024 (15.09. 2024; M65 class). Of the possible three routes, the left route goes over the hill and has almost the same lengthening as the right route (which has no climb).  So we're not considering left route for execution. On the direct route there is a very steep slope to climb up. It takes a lot of time.  See a comparison drawing of the best routes of straight and right. The right route turns out to be the fastest, while it is possible to see other legs ahead on the road. However, it is important to take the shortest route to the road from control 6.  See a comparison drawing of two right routes on this leg ( best time on the leg and the course leader who only had 7th time on this leg).
